Life-changing, supportive, and family were ways in which Sabrina Glover, Class of 2014 described her experience at Synergy. After a short stint in a magnet school and the comprehensive high school, Sabrina joined team Synergy a bit nervous but eager to make a positive change in her life.
In her time at Synergy, she found academic success and decided to pursue additional coursework. Her pursuit led her to taking a course at, then, Manchester Community College where she took a course through the High School Partnership Program. An experience that Sabrina enjoyed so much, she enrolled in MCC the following Fall. Sabrina credits the experience for driving her continued education where she earned her Associates Degree and eventually attended Central Connecticut State University.
Sabrina remembers learning the value of compassion particularly for those who experienced different life circumstances. “We were all there to get our diplomas. We all had different histories but we all did the same thing and had the same goal.” Lessons learned and the support from staff like Mama Shelley, Dave Brownell, and Dave Bocchichio helped Sabrina persevere. Sabrina now aims to become a professor helping students in ways she was once helped.
As a parting message, Sabrina left us with the following: “I know it is tough having to go to school but it gets easier if you consider school to be your job. School truly helps you prepare you for the real world. You may go straight into work or college but going to school with people different than you helps you work with customers and coworkers. Make sure that you go to class and try your hardest and make the best of it while you’re here. It is just the start of great things to come.”
